Atomic Habits

You have to fall in love with boredom

Posted on September 27, 2024 By Ashwini Kamath

Excerpts from “Atomic Habit”

Mastery requires patience and practice. If you want to master a habit, the key is to start with repetition, not perfection. Building better habits isn’t about littering your day with life hacks. Snow is a poor substitute for soil.

First, decide who you want to be. Then begin taking small steps to reinforce your desired identity.

The process of building a habit through Habit Loop: cue, craving, response, and reward.

Most of us are in cognitive slumber so make a “Habits Scorecard”. Then do “Habit stacking”.

“Disciplined” people spend less time in tempting situations. Self-control is a short-term strategy, not a long-term one. Prime the environment. Use the Two-Minute Rule.

When you’re in motion, you’re planning and strategizing and learning. Action, on the other hand, is the type of behavior that will deliver an outcome. Most of us are experts at avoiding criticism and want to delay failure.

Never miss twice. You don’t realize how valuable it is to just show up on your bad (or busy) days. Use a habit tracker.
